Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced that the new Solaire North Casino is off-limits to Government employees.
Solaire North Casino is the second casino property owned by Bloomberry Resorts in the Philippines. The new casino has a 38-story hotel with a 4-story casino. There are nearly 2,700 slot machines and 163 live dealer tables. The casino opened in May of 2024 and hopes to capitalize on affluent customers in the area.
Belmonte stated that the local government has worked with Bloomberry Resorts to implement a plan to prohibit local government employees from entering the casino. City employees will be allowed to access the other non-gaming amenities, but their faces have been entered into a database that will prevent them from entering.
The facial recognition system is so advanced that if someone tries to wear a wig or a mask to enter the facility, their profile can still be detected. Whereas other countries often block government workers from casinos to allow more foreigners access to the games, the Philippines does not generally restrict government workers from game rooms.
The new restriction applies only in Quezon City, but government workers can access Manila casinos and other casino-style resorts across the country.
