A stalled integrated casino resort in Emerald Bay has a new life now that Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment, Okada Manila’s owner, has agreed to help fund the project.
PH Resorts Group Holdings has agreed to sell a majority stake in the Emerald Bay Casino project to complete the project. Dennis Uy, a Davao-based businessman who controls the PH Resorts Group Holdings, signed the tentative agreement in late 2023.
Uy told the media that the partnership with Okada will allow PH Resorts Group Holdings to complete the project and turn the Emerald Bay resort into a symbol for the development of Cebu. This is the third attempt to breathe new life into the stalled casino resort, as both Bloomberry Resorts and AppleOne Properties walked away from earlier deals.
Once completed, the Emerald Bay casino resort will have 642 rooms across two 15-story towers, 700 electronic gaming machines, and 140 table setups in the on-site casino.
Okada Manila, The Heart Of Entertainment City
Despite treacherous times, including a casino take-over by a former board member, the Okada still stands tall in Entertainment City.
Known for its vast gaming floor with 3,000 gaming machines and 500 gambling tables, Okada is the biggest casino in the Manila gambling region. Okada also has 993 guest rooms and a casino spanning more than 284k square feet.
There are currently four mega-casinos in Entertainment City, and a fifth casino resort is being constructed. Despite reporting lower-than-expected revenue for quarter 1 of 2024, Okada is poised to thrive as tourists return to the Philippines.
Online Casinos In Manila
Tourists in Manila and the Philippines can enjoy legal online casinos from any mobile device or desktop computer. At the same time, some brick-and-mortar casinos allow players to access their online casinos while on-site, online casinos are, for the most part, only available through sources located outside of the country.
Philippine gambling laws do not address online casinos outside the country, but they restrict what domestic casinos can offer online. Only casinos with a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) license can offer their services online to other countries and are restricted from providing their games to the Philippines.
