Filipino resident and business tycoon Manuel Villar Jr. has announced he and his partners will launch a new $1 billion casino and hotel venture in Las Pinas City. Villar has partnered with a Korean group of investors to help fund the project.
Villar told the Inquirer, “We plan to start operations this year or, at the latest, the first quarter of next year.”
The option to choose Korean investors is no surprise, given that Koreans make up a large part of the tourism market in the Philippines. According to the Department of Transportation, Koreans have been the largest group of foreign visitors to the Philippines in recent years.
Villar plans to repurpose the Vista Mall Global South, a shopping mall in Las Pinas, into his new casino location. The new casino project presented by Villar is one of two casino locations coming to the Las Pinas area. Villar stated that his casino will be a satellite location, not the main body. The casino entrepreneur also wanted to add an indoor arena, a theme park, and a golf course in Villar City.
